Leaving the fairytale land

And so we come to the end of our holiday 😦 but first….

On our second to last day we had a tour of Postojna caves and Predjama castle. The first was an amazing visit to caves to see the stalagmites and stalactites, columns and pillars. It’s a whole different world in the caves, especially standing in the largest cave I’ve ever been in and listening to the echos there. Apparently they have concerts in there sometimes which I can imagine would be wonderful.

After that we carried onto the most unusual castle I’ve ever been to. Originally the castle was built into a cave which acted as a good defence against attack, but also had an escape tunnel leading vertically from the cave to the outside world which Knight Erazem used to get fresh food while hiding from his enemies. The tour guide was one of the best I have had, she had a fantastic sense of humour that suited our ‘English’ side perfectly.

For our last night we celebrated with a glass of wine and moonlit walk around the lake. I’ve got used to waking up in the morning to a gorgeous view, especially as on our last morning we got to see a hot air balloon floating around the lake.

It was a brilliant holiday, I’ve come back feeling like I’ve had a complete break from normal life and got to spend it in a beautiful city with a great friend. That’s enough soppiness and on to planning the next adventure Kathryn 🙂
