We have exchanged!

Briefest update…

So I received my house contract a couple of weeks ago, read through it all and passed it onto my Dad to read and check through (helpful to have a second pair of eye check it out incase there’s anything I missed) and then went back to my solicitor with a list of questions. There is a lot of paperwork, and I mean loads, although the contract was easier to read and digest than the leasehold agreement…. so cup of hot chocolate (or a few) settle in with a notepad and note down any questions I had. At the same time the Estate agent started hassling me for a completion date. Unfortunately I received the contract just before I went to France for a weeks holiday, so it delayed it a little until I was back.

Once I was back it was straight into more questions, signing and signing and signing before taking it back to my Solicitor (I have no faith in the Post Office/Royal Mail as the contract had arrived opened) Then the scary ‘transfer most of your life savings’ bit, and wait for my Solicitor to confirm she has the money. I don’t know how long it usually takes, but on the same day my solicitor confirmed they had exchanged contracts and completion date is set for the 18th!

      2. I know, I just want to go in to see if it looks like I remember, then I can start getting furniture and stuff, I don’t want to start too early and then it doesn’t fit! How long have you been waiting for yours?

      3. I know that feeling! We’ve got to pick out flooring and everything to but getting measurements for bits like the landing and stairs is going to be a nightmare. We initially reserved the plot back in October and then did the full reservation in February x

      4. Ok so hasn’t been too long (in house terms anyway!) I first viewed in November so hasn’t been too long either. Have you picked out all the bits you like? Do you get to choose wall colours etc or do you do that once you’ve moved in?

      5. No not massively, could have been a lot worse. That’s not too bad then! We’ve picked out the kitchen and bathroom tiles but that’s about it, the walls are just painted white so we can decorate as we want but most people recommend not painting for the first year to allow for the house to settle etc

      6. That’s a good thought, wait and see how you feel in a years time before doing something as semi permanent as painting lol knowing me in three months I’d hate it and want to be a different colour đŸ™‚

      7. Yeah definitely, it’s easier to change the feel of a room with accessories and plain walls than if you have to keep repainting it all.
